My Random Thoughts: China's Yulin Dog and lychee festival case

Well, I'm kinda surprised that this event is still something people flail their arms about. Yes, its the Yulin dog and lychee festival in Guangxi and since this is still a thing, I guess I'll throw in my 2 cents about this conversy.

Let's get this out of the way first, I know this blog is normally talking about a bunch of tech coloured ponies from Equestria or a popular variety show but for this one in particular, I'm going to be completely serious about this.

Look, everyone knows that eating dogs and cats just ain't right so obviously people are against this practice. I was on that boat too, arguing about this stupid festival's existence until I read this article. I strongly suggest you read it before reading on.

Yes, this person is against this festival as well but what he or she is saying is not wrong. Slaughtering them for a festival is inhumane but are we even better people ourselves to these animals we love and care for so much?

When we would assault someone who beats a stray dog on the street, why aren't we mad at the person that let it stray?

Why should we be enraged at just people who used them as test subject when there are people who mistreat them in their own homes

What right do we have yelling at someone for abandoning their disabled pet when we ourselves would not take it in ourselves?

Yes, you can say, "I'll just give it to the shelter or whatever association that can help this animal," but it's not the end of the road, they can only care for so many animals at once and if they cannot take in anymore, you will be back to where you started with that person until you are willing to call it your new pet.

I am in no way encouraging this practice of eating dogs and cats or any of these actions but as the author of the article said,

"So by all means sign the anti-Yulin petition, but don't pretend that the worst animal cruelty in the world is happening “over there”. It’s here as well, and won't stop until we realise that it’s as much our problem as China’s."

Bottom line, nothing amount of complain and arguing will amount up to 1 single action. I'm no vegan so I can't say much, don't just limit the love to house pets, As I quote from the author (again)

"Vegans are the only group who can oppose the festival without any fear of hypocrisy. That is the only way to be morally consistent. If you are against cruelty to dogs, you should be against cruelty to any sentient animal."

I hope this gives you all a new perspective or at least something to think about .As usual, feel free to voice your thoughts and opinions.

See you next time
(Sugar Cube Corner will come back next week, I have something special in mind)
